Past Lives

This may beyond the scope of horary, and it is a personal belief also, but I wondered if any of you have asked about past lives or have seen chart samples asking about them? I'm not sure if I believe in them myself, but I am curious about this topic myself, and would imagine this has been asked before. I'm not sure how to examine such a chart, though. I suppose you'd expect the Moon to show a lot of separating aspects that explain the past circumstances, if applicable. The nodes might be prominent somehow also.

It's something I think about a lot, and I tried a chart for myself, but I'm not sure how to examine it, so I may just save it for a later time.

If no one has any experience with such charts, I understand, but I just thought I'd throw it out there. Thanks!

If you are not asking about horary, I think vedic astrology is a better bet. It reads the whole chart in terms of past lives. In fact, a few of the divisional charts are entirely speaking about past lives or reason for this birth. If you really believe in rebirth, a good reading from a good astrologer (although extremely hard to find) is good way to know. I have just started learning it and it is eerily accurate about at least events as they happen in this life. I firmly believe in this branch, but then I am from India and it is easier for me to believe in karma.

I agree - Vedic astrology and Carmic teachings are so finely intertwined- I'd certainly suggest anyone who shares those beliefs to visit a Vedic astrologer and let him/her make the reading respecting his/her chosen branch (including the sideral time, the explanations grounded in Vedic philosophy etc.). Personally, if I'd be interested in such topics- I myself would probably ask a Vedic astrologer for help and a reading.

Yes. Past life can be read in what is known as Nadi Astrology (vedic)
The origin of the Nadi astrology can be traced back to approximately 2000 years ago. It is said about Nadi astrology that the Indian Rishis or sages had written the life patterns of each person on palm leaves by their Yogic Intuitive powers From these Nadis the querent obtains an accurate reading of all the major events and happenings of the past The most important aspects of this Naadi Astrology are the remedies involving rituals at temples for transmuting difficult karmas created in a past life, which may be affecting this incarnation

Hi Tanit,

I recommend you the new book of Steven Forrest, Yesterday's sky, astrology and reincarnation. Analizing the axis of south-north nodes he gets into the past life story. Its amazing, I tried it and it works! everbody has some kind of "memories" of phobies which you can't really explain. He describes the south node and the aspects as the scenario of unresolved matters and the north node as the possible way to get the "matter done". He says that we probably do not recall the hold karmic story but what counts is the emotional memory of our personel drama which, he writes, survives in our present life memory. So with the astrological symbols he tells a "story" in which all the symbols fit perfectly. Is is not so much important if the story is 100% real, the most important think is that the psycological problems which go along with them enable us to understand the past-and the PRESENT Life story which we choose to resolve.

I hope this may be useful to you. for the rest, I do not know much about jiotish (vedic astrology), but I know the importance of the nodes for the karmic interpretation. Good Luck!

Dear Friends:

I have never had a horary about past lives, but I did have one about reincarnation. The querent had a much-beloved dog who was killed in a car accident. She wanted to know if the dog's soul would return to her in another body, and if the dog missed her and her husband.

I was at first completely taken aback by this question. However, it was clearly very sincere. The woman's husband was quite distraught over losing the dog, so she did genuinely have a need to know the answer.

I was also worried about drifting into quackery by taking the question. I wanted to be able to answer it using a legitimate horary method. Then, I suddenly had a brainstorm: I decided to treat the chart as a version of a 'lost pet' horary. It struck me that the essence of what she was asking was, 'where is my dog and will I get the dog back?"

And the answer (IMO) was YES! It was quite fascinating to read that chart, actually, once I had settled on how to approach it. The dog's signifier was on the 8th house cusp and retrograde--showing a 'return from the dead.' The Moon was in mutual reception with another planet (I don't have the chart in front of me, so I don't remember which one), which I took as a testimony of the soul finding a new body. There was also an applying aspect between the dog's planet and the querent's.

The querent never did follow up with me, to say whether or not she got another dog--although she was very pleased with answer. She and her husband were tremendously encouraged by it. I somehow think I 'got that one right.'

Olivia Barclay had a great chart on previous lives included in her QHP course when I was studying with her. I believe she included it as a curiousity. The question was "In one of my past lives, was I a Roman?" The question was asked on Jan 5. 1984 at 18.58 GMT, 51N17, 0E46.

We can have a discussion on this chart. Olivia's comment to this lesson was:
"- Please consider the previous aspects of the Moon, one behind he other. Look at the Fixed Stars. Do you have anything to add to your judgement or not. I am not implying that you should have, just that I do not think you have explored conclusively ("thank you, Olivia"), or taken into account the material that I sent you. Have you heard of Sogdiana?"
If you do look at this chart, do also pay attention to the nodes. Has anyone heard of the Sogdiana?

Andrew - did Olivia give any other clues about the chart? Was she able to predict she was from Sogdiana?

I could be way off, but I see the Moon's last aspect was Venus, ruler of the 10th of government/empires. South node is in the same sign as Venus (Sag). Venus is in a masculine sign in Sag vs. the querent's current feminine sign (the Sun in Cap). Venus is in a fire sign, which I associate most in combat, also conjunct Antares, which is something I would take to represent a warrior (guardes the western gate).

Looks like her next life may be Saturn?

Olivia never said or explained. She did request that we looked at the Moon's past aspects.
OOO!

She must have been a real task master and a Guru :)
Maybe, she was testing the co-rulership or I am just biased.

Ptolemy refers to that area of Iran as that of Airy triplicty governed by Gemini(North node),Aquarius(Uranus-co-ruler) - Moon the 12th lord and dispositor of Part of spirit seperates from Uranus and applies to NN.

From Tetrabiblios: Emphasis mine:
The third quadrant occupies the northern division of Asia Magna. Those several parts of it which lie to the north-east of the whole earth, and comprise Hyrcania, Armenia, Mantiana, Bactriana, Casperia, Serica, Sauromatica, Oxiana, and Sogdiana, are in familiarity with the north-east triplicity, composed of Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius, and have for their rulers Saturn and Jupiter, in matutine positions; hence the inhabitants worship Jupiter and the Sun. 1 They are abundantly rich in all things: they possess much gold, and are dainty and luxurious in their diet. They are also learned in theology, skilled in magic, just in all their dealings, free and noble-minded, holding dishonesty and wickedness in abhorrence, strongly imbued with the softer affections of nature; and, in a worthy cause, they will even readily embrace death to preserve their friends. They are, furthermore, chaste in marriage, elegant and splendid in their dress, charitable and beneficent, and of enlightened intellect. All these qualities are principally produced by the matutine positions of Saturn and Jupiter, who influence the region.

Among these nations, however, Hyrcania, Armenia, and Mantiana, have a greater familiarity with Gemini and Mercury; and the in-habitants are consequently more acute in apprehension, but less tenacious of their probity. The countries about Bactriana, Casperia, and Serica, are connected with Libra and Venus; and the natives are endowed with much wealth and many luxuries, and take delight in poetry and songs. The nations about Sauromatica, Oxiana and Sogdiana, are influenced by Aquarius and Saturn; and are therefore less polished in manners, and more austere and uncouth.

NB: Ptolemy was politically incorrect :lala

The emphasis is on Aquarius(Moon),Saturn(Sun ist lord in Capr).

If she was going by North node- she would not have have mentioned moon's past aspects or Sogdiana which is Aquarius rather than Gemini.
