Half-remembered profection example 1 by Martin Gansten I am trying to locate an example that I thought was from a Greek-language author, perhaps Paul of Alexandria or Hephaestio, but haven't been able to nail down. As I recall, it was of a nativity where the natal Asc was 7 degrees in some sign or other and was profected to Virgo, so that Mercury ruled it by domicile but Venus by terms and triplicity. If anyone should recognize this and be able to identify the exact source, I'd be very grateful. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Thu Jun 03, 2021 6:45 pm
2 by Ouranos Hello Martin, Is it this one? Chris Brennan, “Paul of Alexandria,??? The Hellenistic Astrology Website, March 25, 2014 https://www.hellenisticastrology.com/as ... lexandria/ March 19, 353 CE at about 2:00 pm, presumably in Alexandria, Egypt. Which would give a Leo ASC at 7 degrees. Best, Ouranos Blessings! Quote Thu Jun 03, 2021 7:50 pm
3 by Martin Gansten Thanks, Ouranos, but it was in an actual text by an ancient (? or possibly medieval, but I think not) author that I remember reading this example. As I said, I thought at first it might be Paul, but on re-reading his chapter 31, it seems not. https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Fri Jun 04, 2021 6:34 am
4 by Martin Gansten Thanks to Levente László, I found the place: it was in one of his HOROI project translations, not ancient but Byzantine. I must have connected it in my mind with Paul because his profection example also has the ascendant coming to Virgo, and because both sources are in Greek. Levente's translation of the particular sentence I was looking for runs: The year is of the Virgin, and the domicile-master is Hermes because of his exaltation and domicile and also Aphrodite because of her trigon and bound. (Or, as I would put it: The year belongs to Virgo, and the ruler is Mercury because of its exaltation and domicile and also Venus because of its triplicity and terms.) https://astrology.martingansten.com/ Quote Fri Jun 04, 2021 12:25 pm
