There are numerous techniques, but I believe the most famous are:

-Addey method
-Sepharial keys (which are the weights of the horses)
-Al Kindi (planetary hour and horse shade)
-Joyce Wherman (closest aspect to the angle)
-Donald Bradley

My opinion is Al-Kindi, if we regard planetary hour as a metaphor for the strongest planet(s) and horse shade as metaphor for jock colors and horse numbers. It's also possible to dig deeper into it like Al-Kindi does to some degree, prominent 8th house accidents, 10th prominent (false?) favorite, 7th shippers, 6th strong pace, 9th strong finish, 12th trainer games etc. (in Al-Kindi's time it was a competition between nobles, context is now different). But nothing is certain with race charts alone (and there can also be delays).
