Second Lockdown in Germany

Package of measures of 28 October 2020

On 28 October 2020, the Chancellor held a video conference with the heads of government of the Länder. The measures adopted are to be implemented by the Länder by 2 November, are to apply until the end of November and are to be reviewed after two weeks:

- Citizens are encouraged to reduce social contacts to an absolute minimum and to avoid all unnecessary travel. Only members of 2 households and 10 persons are allowed to stay in public.
- Many facilities will be closed: Leisure facilities such as theatres, swimming pools and amusement parks, all catering and personal hygiene services (except medically necessary treatments and hairdressers).
- Entertainment events will be prohibited (professional sports only without spectators).
- Recreational and amateur sports operations are also affected by the closures and contact restrictions and are largely prohibited. Individual sport is excluded.
- Schools, kindergartens and wholesale and retail businesses remain open. In the wholesale and retail trade, only one customer is to come to ten square metres.
- Additional economic aid has been decided for the affected businesses.
