How to post a chart in the horary forum

1
Hello - I am going to write a new procedure on how to insert astrology charts in the forum and would first like to leave it to the current users to provide input on methods they prefer and find most useful.

Please let me know the sites you find most easy to use to house your charts and the methods you use to post your charts. I have been using https://imgbb.com/ lately and select the "BBCode full linked" option (copy/pasted to the forum).

I am going to additionally request that users post their data with text in case housing sites close down and images are lost too.

Thanks!

Thanks, Miss Watson. There has been an issue with sites shutting down and no longer hosting photos, so that is the main reason I recommend posting data too. For example, tinypic has been used a lot in the past but it is closing: http://tinypic.com/ Any images posted there will be gone at the end of the month.

Hi Tanit!
It can happen to the websites we recommended here too, so it's important to post the data. But I wonder if it is necessary to inform the location where the Horary was casted as well. I believe many members want privacy about the city they live in. For those cases, it would be interesting to post at least the country. (Do you think it's necessary? :???:)

Hello Tanit,

I'm using: https://imgur.com/
Direct link: https://imgur.com/upload?beta

There is the similar option: "Get share links > BBCode (Forums)" and this image hosting website seems to be working pretty well.

Btw does any of you Mods have an access into the skyscript database?
I just found that imgur.com offers to upload image using PHP scripts and generate new links on the fly:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/172 ... -using-php
=> there might be a small chance to re-upload all former Tinypic.com pictures into imgur.com and re-write them by new links in database automatically using several scripts.

I'm not sure if I would be capable of it, but I could give it a try if you have an access.
(Until September 16, 2019, when Tinypics closes completely).

Hi Petr - thanks for the suggestion.

Regarding editing previous charts, users can edit their own previous posts of charts themselves. It is not necessary for an admin to edit someone's own posts. They are certainly welcome to do that.

Miss Watson - you can easily determine the location, date and time from a chart itself. Cutting that information off does not make the information unavailable to someone who wants it. If they do not want their location known, they should not post personal charts at all. I am not sure what privacy information one would gain from a location anyway? If they are worried about non astrologers seeking privacy data, they could post their coordinates instead.

It looks like posts are available for about 15 years, and a lot could happen to an imagine in that time period. That is why I think posting the data helps (and also posting the topic of the chart in the title so it is easy to find with a search).

I haven't tried https://imgbb.com yet, but I have been using https://postimages.org, selecting "no expiration" so that the images remain here indefinitely. Then, I choose the "Direct link" option to post to the forum (using the "img" tags).
I didn't have any luck with the Direct Link tag (the image didn't transfer), but then further down the list of chices I saw the URL for forums, and that link worked.

I had no luck at all with https://imgbb.com/ which seemed to take over my computer and forced images rather than a list of file names. The web site wouldn't even allow me to delete the folder with the chart image on my computer. (I finally found a way around the problem.)

like miss watson, i use - postimage.org - not postimages.org which might be a typo on miss watsons part.. funny, although it says postimage.org the url is https - postimages.org, so i don't know what is going on there... at any rate, that is the site i have been using the past 5 or more years... they did change the script where i had to add some letters - cc. as i recall - to make the links work again... for the time being this site works well for me..

Hi Tanit!
Hmm.. I do understand.
Therese Hamilton wrote:I am wondering if these image posting sites are free, how to they keep going? I guess TinyPic got tired of being free, but even so the site was loaded with colorful ads which was annoying. We had to learn to work around them.
Hi Therese!
Free websites use ads to raise money and keep working (all of them). Some websites that offer free services, includes a premium version too. The last one is safer because this is how they get the money to keep their websites on, but the 'ads type' take the risk to shut down within certain time. For any case, posting data is important.

Hi james_m!
I don't know what's wrong, but I copied the link from the browser address bar ( https://postimages.org/ ) and pasted here. Here is still working for me

If we just search for "postimages" with google we'll find the website
