Venus glyph
Astrology for Today by Joanna Watters

Venus rules the throat and kidneys. Blood sugar levels and diabetes are also Venus' domain. It also rules illnesses arising from sexual activity.
Introducing Venus

Known as the morning or evening star, Venus is visible just before sunrise or just after sunset. In traditional astrology it is known as the Lesser Benefic. Like Mercury it is to be found between the Earth and the Sun. It is never further away from the Sun than 46 degrees so, in the horoscope, it is always either in the same sign as the Sun or in one of the two preceding or following signs.

In Greek mythology Venus is Aphrodite, the goddess of love, from whose name comes the word "aphrodisiac," that which induces desire. From Venus' name comes the word "venereal," which literally means "of lust."

Venus is feminine and rules our world of love and all desires. Through it we experience joy, rapture, lust, and the nature of our sexuality. Venusian types are generally wonderful lovers, but they are also lovers of beauty, art, music, and food. Venus rules sensuality and earthly pleasures as discovered through the senses of touch, taste, smell, sight, and sound, as exemplified through its feminine sign of Taurus. In this sense it is the opposite principle to Mercury, as our physical appetites are a response to need and want rather than part of an analytical process. In fact, our most powerful desires drive out judgment - we all know that trying to reason with anyone in love is useless.

Beyond the initial stages of attraction and desire come the arts and skills needed to build meaningful relationships, so Venus' masculine sign is Libra, the sign of relating and partnership. Venus rules pairing, meetings, engagements, weddings, and unions of all kinds. It can also speak of those we love outside of a romantic relationship, such as close friends or family members. It especially rules women, as indicated by the glyph, which is the universal symbol for womankind. In a man's chart it can show the type of woman to whom he is attracted,

LOVING AND BEAUTIFUL

As the Lesser Benefic, Venus rules beauty, and its physical attributes are good looks, prettiness, dimples, softness, roundness, and a tendency to put on weight. It also rules beautifying, such as make-up, perfume, jewelry, and all adornments.

In personality it indicates a loving and affectionate nature, someone who is peaceable, sociable, and sometimes lazy. Venus rules amusement and enjoyment.
