Astrolog is a free astrology program that's been available for Windows and other platforms since the early 1990's. Its complete source code is available as well. Download it at: http://www.astrolog.org/astrolog.htm

The new Astrolog version 6.30 has been released! :' One of its new features is "chart spheres", or wheel charts but in 3D. See an animation of a chart sphere above. For more about them see the following thread on this forum: http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=9836

Astrolog also now includes transit graphs, which map the orb of aspects over time, with an example seen below:

The latest version of Astrolog, version 6.40, has been released! :D

Continuing to develop "chart spheres" as introduced above, Astrolog 6.40 allows producing true 3D models of select charts. Here's a more extensive animation of a moving through and around a chart sphere, while the time/date of the chart itself is also animating: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdRaDGXBV-0

Another Astrolog chart that supports 3D models is its solar system orbit chart. Orbit trails can be drawn behind planets, including showing aspect lines between planets in their orbits. Also, the whole solar system can be offset over time, producing spiral helix patterns such as seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jFhwfM0FKCo

The newest release of Astrolog, version 6.50, is now available! :)

Continuing to develop methods of "3D astrology", Astrolog 6.50 now features "3D astrocartography", as seen above. Classic astrocartography just has lines for planet angles drawn on a rectangular map of the world, which looks "flat" in comparison. ;)

Astrolog supports fixed stars, and in version 6.50 star distances are available too. This allows unique features such as charts centered on other stars (and seeing what the constellations look like from other star systems) and 3D animations of flying through the galaxy:

Astrolog 7.00

The newest release of Astrolog, version 7.00, is now available! :'

Astrolog 7.00 features an atlas, including automatic time zone and Daylight Saving Time determination. :D The animation above created by the program shows how time zones have changed over 180 years, and when time zones were first introduced for each city in the world.

Astrolog 7.00 can display numerous asteroids at once. You specify a range of asteroid ephemeris files that you've downloaded, and Astrolog will load and display all of them in sequence. For example, the following animation of Astrolog's solar system chart shows the first 10,000 asteroids orbiting the Sun:

Astrolog 7.10

The newest release of Astrolog, version 7.10, is now available! :D

Astrolog 7.10 now supports planetary moons, and can display their positions in a similar fashion as it can display asteroids. The animation above shows Jupiter being orbited by its four Galilean moons Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. For more about using and interpreting planetary moons in astrology, see this thread: http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11031

Astrolog supports eclipse detection, and version 7.10 features a new "telescope" chart that accurately zooms in on a section of sky, allowing eclipses, planetary moons orbiting planets, and such to be observed in detail. The following animation shows an annular eclipse that took place near asteroid "1255 Schilowa":

The newest release of Astrolog, version 7.20, is now available! :D

Astrolog 7.20 has received a "face lift"! :brows It can now display charts with custom bitmap backgrounds, and detailed Astrocartography maps. It supports 7 different fonts for display of signs, houses, planets, and aspects. (For example, the newly created Astronomicon font by Roberto Corona can be seen above.)

Astrolog 7.20 has improved support for planetary moons, which are now as easy to display and work with as any planet. The animation below shows Saturn (and its rings) being orbited by Saturn's largest 8 moons, with planetary moon eclipses detected too. For more about planetary moons in astrology and how to use and interpret them, see: http://www.astrolog.org/astrolog/astmoon.htm

The newest release of Astrolog, version 7.30, is now available! It's been exactly 30 years since the first version was posted to the old Usenet newsgroup "alt.astrology", so this is the "30th Anniversary Edition" of the program! 8)

Astrolog 7.30 has improved wheel charts, with options for filled in areas (with rainbow colors or other patterns), line thickness, different text fonts, and decan markings, such as seen above.

Astrolog 7.30 offers a new planetary visibility chart, showing when selected planets are above the horizon at all times of the year. For example, in the below chart, date is the vertical axis, and time of day is the horizontal. Sun is red, Venus is green, and Jupiter is blue. To see when both Venus and Jupiter are visible (both above horizon while the Sun is below) look at the cyan areas (green + blue) to quickly see that during this year, Venus and Jupiter are both visible in the early evening from Aug-Dec:

The newest release of Astrolog, version 7.40, is now available! :D

Astrolog 7.40 can now manage lists of charts, such as seen above. One can open and save chart lists in multiple file formats, and even import the entire Astrodatabank if they've downloaded it. Chart lists may be sorted, filtered, edited, and displayed in various manners too.

Astrolog 7.40 has Unicode support, and can now display special characters in charts, such as Japanese:
