THE CHINESE SKY DURING THE HAN: Constellating Stars and Society
By Sun Xiaochun and Jacob Kistemaker

Gavin White gave a review of this book on Skyscript, saying:
Its importance relies on two main factors. Firstly, through the process of reviewing and analysing all the historical materials at their disposal, the authors have succeeded in making a trustworthy reconstruction of the ancient Chinese constellation map. Secondly, and perhaps of greater importance to the wider study of ancient astrology, it investigates the origins and meanings of the Chinese constellations. From a cultural and historical point of view this is of inestimable value, as the constellations reveal so much about the society that created them. This aspect of the book is truly fascinating as the authors attempt to describe the overall structure of the heavens and how man-made meanings are ascribed to this structure in the form of constellation groupings. In both aspects 'The Chinese Sky during the Han' proves itself a groundbreaking study.

Publication details are given in the review. As an academic publication it is an expensive purchase but there is always the library option - and there is quite a generous exposure of contents in its Google book's preview:

My Favourite Chinese Astrology Books

Well this is a hard one as a lot of the books are still in Chinese and I think in the Taoist Canon as well. Books that are "words of the stars" are few and far between but Derek Walters wrote an interesting book called "The Chinese Astrology Workbook." Chinese Astrology seems bound up with such stuff as Feng Shui and the Yijing. purely observational astrology using stars etc concentrates on some actual planets, the constellations and a few mathematical points. A good introduction to actual usage is "The Definitive Book of Chinese Astrology" which contains a Windows program to do a stripped down version of Purple Crepe Myrtle Astrology. Its by Shelley Wu. There are books on 9 Star Qi or Ki which is a simple numerological based Astrology and Michael Erlewine (spelling?) of Matrix Astrology has an e-book on Tibetan Astrology (and I know they are not Chinese etc) Which is a synthesis of Chinese and Indian Buddhist Astrology systems. Try Amazon for some of these or troll e-Bay etc.
