Bigotsgate

1
The fateful meeting occurred during a carefully managed visit to Rochdale by Gordon Brown and an entourage of advisors which was to became known in the media as 'Bigotsgate'. It describes the encounter between Mrs Gillian Duffy a 65-year-old former council worker and lifelong Labour voter who had bumped into the entourage as she was out buying a loaf of bread. The meeting between her and PM Gordon Brown began innocuously, with her pressing him on issues such as pensions, tax and immigration, and they appeared to part on good terms.

When he got inside the car, however, the PM was overheard telling an aide that it was a "disaster".

"Should never have put me with that woman - whose idea was that?" he said, adding: "She was just a sort of bigoted woman."

Gordon Brown's remarks were picked up because he was still wearing a Sky News microphone, an unfortunate act of carelessness that led to Labour's worst day of the general election campaign.

The close fixed G-Cross is strongly angular with Sun/Mer - Moon - Mars/Asc - Fortuna/Dc.

Mercury in taurus is combust and in the 10th representing the PM. The exchange between the two seems to be slightly misinterpreted by Gordon Brown. Judgement can seen to be at fault both in the negative way in which it is interpreted by the PM and by his forgetting to take off the microphone attached to his lapel. 10th ruler is Mars sq Sun/Mer indicates the irritation inpatience and impulsiveness that are to undo him. Moon the 12th ruler is in 4th representing Ms Duffy and in its fall in scorpio. 4th ruler is in articulate gemini, the lady communicates her case well.

Media are shown by 3rd, where resides the now familiar Saturn opposition to Jup/Ura in 9th house of education/foreign/immigrants etc. The tipping point in the fated conversation seems to have been a misunderstanding concerning Polish immigrants taking up places in UK higher eduction. Ruler of 3rd, communication/media is combust and in 10th house representing the PM.

Mercury combust imparts to the mind a capacity for concentration upon what it deems its own destiny, but robs it of its receptivity to distracting or diverting influences. Hence it is no bar to the achievement of its own objectives insofar as the ability to achieve them is within its own powers, but it robs the native of the cooperation of those whom he alienates by his particular species of obtuse deafness to any or all argument that runs counter to his own concepts. Edison and Kant both illustrate this interpretation.

Mercury Combust is brilliantly illustrated in the debate between Gordon Brown & Ms Duffy. Both sides mean well and speak articulately...but neither side appears to take in the others points and are seemingly deaf to them as they struggle to make their own case!
