Disturbances in Nature

Under this thread I thought we might collect observations and thoughts that occur in conjunction with our discussion on the disappearance of the Bees, but that don't not directly relate to it. It might open new avenues to matters we are all interested in.

For instance, this week officials recommended the general public NOT to bathe in the inner Oslo fjord due to the appearance of a mysterious foam. The last report was that the foam was harmless but due to biological material decomposing as a part of alga activity.

Cane Toads

2
Here in the Tropics of Northern Australia we have an invasion of the Cane Toad. It has taken 60 odd years from them to travel from QUEENSLAND
( Eastern Oz where they imported (from sth America I think) them to eat the cane beetle off the sugar cane) to the Northern Territory - They grow huge and kill anything that eats them - their poison has killed countless Crocodiles, goanna, eagle, frilled neck lizard and snakes. However their are signs of nature adapting and the wedge tail will now flip the Cane Toad over to eat its underbelly (no poison there) Although I fear the Goanna population hasn't fared so well. Now it is the dry season here in the north people are fencing billabongs water holes damns etc so the cane toad cant get water ( Native frogs hibernate I know thats not the right word but they do of a sorts) in an attempt to get rid of large populations n it seems to be working a bit. The Toads arrived here last wet 08 and coincided with the INgress of Pluto into Capricorn ( the tropic of Capricorn runs through where these beasties came from!! ) and if you want to know more google frog watch
