Hello to all. I want to thank Deb for publishing Steven Birchfield's excellent and thought-provoking article on traditional astrological approaches to relationship issues, a piece whose stimulus was a discussion on this forum. Thank you for writing the article, Steven!

Is anyone else having trouble printing the PDF file? I am using a Mac G3 computer running OS X v.3, with Safari v. 2 browser. This is not the most current hard- and software, and my difficulties might be related to that and nothing more. (My laptop PC is not connected to the Internet.)

What I find, is that the PDF file seems to install Adobe 7.0 as a separate printer in my Printer Utility application, and in addition the entire article doesn't print; only the first six pages print out, ever so slowly, and the glyphs in Steven's example chart are random symbols (I presume because the computer doesn't have that font).

Steven is one of my favorite teachers and writers and I'd love to be able to print the article for study. I'm wondering if others are having similar difficulties, or if it's just my system. If it's the latter, I'll print it from a friend's computer when I get the chance.

Thank you!

Can you read it by using "Preview"? That always opens PDFs on my Mac.

Hi Mithra6. I can read it using Preview, but I can't print it. I might be able to copy and paste it into a word processing program from Preview, though.

Deb and moderators, my apologies - I could have sworn I started this thread in the Books and Notices subforum, but obviously not. Please feel free to move it to the appropriate place - or maybe you already did! I just noticed the change. Again, my apologies.

I `ve printed out the text without problem - but the chart doesn`t have glyphs for signs and planets, just some strange symbols. I made my own chart and - let`s go to study!
Thank you, Steven Thumbs up

Yes, horarcek, let's go study! I have the text now, as well, and will draw the symbols in.

Hi Astraea

I don't have any problems viewing or printing this file, but if anyone who does has suggestions to avoid problems like this, please let me know. It shouldn't be too hard to create a new PDF file if we know what is wrong with this one.

I'm glad you find it worth the trouble though!

I, as always, liked very much Steven article, although I confess I didnīt have a large deal of success applying Mashalah rules to my actual horaries. I got a lot of errors in judgement and had to come back to the usual rules.

I hope I am not overstapping anything here, but if I am I can take down the link:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?mmm0agqjkzz

It is the magazine Foudations of Steven and Martien Hermes, in which they discuss the horaries techniques of Mashalah.

Hi Deb and Yuzuru. Thanks to both of you - Deb, for offering your help with this issue (which I think must be a cross-platform dilemma), and Yuzuru for posting that link.

The PDF file has been updated, so hopefully everyone should be able to see the astrological fonts now. Sorry about the earlier problems !

Hi Steven, thank you for your clarification that this is not a platforum issue. I am interested in understanding how electronic functions operate and interact, and now I have a better grasp of this aspect of it. Your explanation is very clear, as is your article about the principles of delineation in relationship questions. Thank you very much.

Ahh ok I didn't originally understand that was the issue. I thought the file itself wasn't opening. I wanted to explain something in your comment:

steven wrote:

I took the chart from Janus and made a JPEG image and put it in instead. I likewise removed the GIF image of Lilly's chart and converted it to JPEG also because for some reason Adobe Acrobat takes more time to load a GIF image in its browser than it does a JPEG. So also the document will scroll much faster than previously, especially when you come to page 7 and Lilly's chart.

The reason for this is that JPEGs have better and more efficient compression. GIFs take longer to open because they tend to be larger and more clunky. Acrobat has a lot happening in the background, so using a JPEG works better.

I have a question for Steven, if it is possible.

I liked a lot his article, and I printed it as very worthy to study.
Still I have a doubt. Why we are taking the Moon as ruler of the husband?
This makes sense to me if a man is asking the question for his wife/partner but what if a woman is asking the question about a man?
I think it would be more logical to switch to the Sun, because if the Moon is wife's face, the Sun is husband's one.

What do you think about this?

Margherita

Hi, Marguerita
in the page 14/15 in "If the man is doing with someone besides his wife" Steven writes:

"As you can plainly see, Lilly does not use the moon as significator of the querent ! Both he and Bonatti do exactly the same thing and use it as significator of the quesited matter, which in this question is the spouse or husband".

See that it is not a matter of the universal significator of husband (sun) or wife (moon). The problem is if the moon can be taken as signifying the querent or the quesited. In this question, the quesited happened to be the husband.
