Are there astrologers in the west who follow sidreal (star based) system in reading native or horary charts

Hi kannan,

yes there is. Cyril Fagan and Garth Allen (aka Donald Bradley) founded in mid-1900's what's called Western sidereal astrology. Philip Graves had written a short but detailed history on the movement and especially their publications elsewhere on this forum http://skyscript.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2978 . Today jyotish has started to get a footing in the West too, so nowadays that's probably the most common way people get in touch with the sideral zodiac.

Hi Papretis

Thanks for the information. Vedic (Hindu) astrology beliefs and specialises in Stellar format. The original contributions by sages and saints in India in predictive astrology based on sidreal zodiac are available in plenty and I womder whether western workers are aware of this. What I would like to know is whether predictions are given in the west currently based on sidreal chart

Hi kannan,

the majority of Western astrologers generally don't do predictions, they're more concentrated on character sketch and psychology. The minority of astrologers doing traditional (tropical) Western astrology do predicitions. Quite many of them are specialized in horary (prashna).

Western clients are not as interested in concrete predictions as people in India, because the Western world view emphasizes free will. People don't usually think that things are (at least completely) predestined; if there's no predestination, then you cannot predict what will happen. So it's a question about the world view - whether you think that things can be predicted in advance or not.

Hi Papretis

Agreed. But even in horary I find only sayana charts are studied in the west. Are there cases where horary predictions are given based on Nirayana (Sidreal) zodiac in the west ,atleast a few.

You might want to explore the site of Ken Bowser. Although I can't see any horary articles on his site, Ken has great experience in using sidereal astrology in most branches of astrology.
