I have always been interested in planetary dominants. The find the certain planet(s) that has a deep significance for the native is something that intrigues me because I believe that this will tell a lot about the native themselves; their temperament, their personality, their life events, spirituality, down to how they even look.

However, as many of us know, there are systems upon systems of finding out what the mysterious dominant planet is and how it even functions for a native.

So that I don't wax poetic about all the other ways astrologers find the dominant planet, the one I'm interested in is the Almuten, which I believe is one of the most robust and best systems for finding planetary strength in traditional western astrology.

The only problem I have is that I cannot seem to find any in depth information about the Almuten or the different possible Almutens one can have.

For example, my Almuten is Venus and the only information that I've been able to find in showing how it manifests in a native's life is this: "Id it is Venus s/he will be a lover of beauty, of music, of men and women etc." which is from http://renaissance-astrology.blogspot.com/2011/08/guardian-angel-almuten-figuris.html (it also briefly describes the other Almutens, for those who are interested.

Who those who are experienced in this field, if you would be so kind, could you edify someone such as myself as to how these work in some manner of detail and other resources I might look into for more?

Hello Tsukii,

In classical term the “Almuten” means the planet with the greatest amount of dignity in a given zodiacal degree. This is not always the planet that “rules” the sign in question. Some classical theory gives the Almuten something similar to a Guardian Angel in the chart.
And the method from Ptolemae reworked by many astrologers over the centuries seems to make a consensus and below you will find a link to calculate it with AstroFox 0.8
As it seems, if you are looking for a life purpose, my suggestion would be to look at Bernadette Brady's work on Fixed Stars on bernadettebrady.com
They seem to be more relevant than the Almuten of the Chart.
Free calculation is offered on www.astro.com - Free Horoscope - Extended Chart Selection - Special Charts Tab Choose Parans according to Bernadette Brady.
