I agree with the power of declinations Stefan and that intense Mars-Pluto-MC-IC-Asc-Desc parallel in the chart certain speaks of the event.

If you factor in the Vertex - which told the story so effectively in longitude - you can see it is parallel the ruler of 8th and IC, Mercury, and Uranus, which further emphasises its function.

I also noticed the late degrees, but if give that much credit to late degrees we'd be ignoring areas of the chart that hold a lot more information. Chart ruler is retrograde in the 12th in opposition to Mr. Violence (Mars). Saturn in the 12th is in its joy, but the 12th is still the worst house in the zodiac and having visibility to that Mars...

Moving on, Mars is closely conjoined to the IC (family ties, heritage) directly attacking the lineage. Mars is in sect and in mutual reception with Mercury in Aries in the 4th. There's the key - Mercury rules 5th (children) and by proxy of ruling the IC also shares rulership over family and heritage. Mercury in mutual reception with Mars is conjoined to Uranus. Uranus rules all things sudden and unexpected. This combination so closely conjoined to the Moon promised sudden and unexpected events in the child's life. Uranus is attacking the life (Moon is the lifegiver) by way of the chart being of the nocturnal sect. It also gives insight into the mother, who, based on this chart, is prone to sudden and violent actions.

What could have saved the situation - Venus and Jupiter in mutual reception. Both see Saturn in the 12th. However, neither one was strong enough to overpower the situation because Venus and Jupiter do not see eachother. On the other hand, Saturn, Moon, Mercury, and Mars all see eachother. Based on this chart it seems the situation could have gone either way but because the bad overpowered the good the situation turned to the worst outcome.

Let's not forget the LoF is also in the 1st giving secondary power to the existing framework of the chart. If we get technical, the Moon and Sun are in an out of sign conjunction and the Sun removes even more of the Moon's power.

Good point. Moon as co ruler of the mother conjunct Mecury/Uranus in Aries angular and ruled by Mars would help describe the mother, and this could show a volatile mother.

I was the person to mention late degrees, so are you talking to me? It certainly was not the only thing I mentioned. In any chart, late or early degrees can show lack of groundedness, if you interpret authors such as Bonatti that way (saying the planet is neither in one sign nor the other, meaning it cannot make up its mind). Late degrees can show crisis indicators also, more so per horary authors but it could be true in any chart. You mentioned the luminary of sect being the Moon, as I noted already, and it in particular is at an anaretic degree. In horary, situations with anaretic emphasis are usually a crisis or end of a situation. They can even be the breaking point of a situation. Sometimes they indicate a change is coming, though. Again, this is not the only thing I mentioned in the chart but I was just saying that so many late indicators probably support a lack of sustaining life (especially since there is weak amount of fixed indicators). I speak on an energy level because this is important in the charts I typically analyze regarding their quality to sustain a matter.

Alice Portman - can you explain to me the significance of the Vertex? I see it used in inconsistent ways.

Yes that is so. Might look closer at vertex in the future...
Thanks.

Aside from the Declinations and parallels soo revealing to the case....

I see also from the jyotish perspective the weakness of the chart,
the Sidereal whole sign houses placement of the Rx ascendant ruler saturn in the 12th house, aspected by natural malefic mars by vedic 8th sign aspect is weak and hard for the body (asc.lord). And also the birth at day before new moon is not good for the moon, so important in childs chart.

Birth took place in planetary subperiod Rahu (node)
Rahu in 8th house is current performing cycle at the start of life.
This show 8th house influence of upheaval and change, life and death issues.
