how astrology actually works

1
Hi everybody,

I've created a youtube video that tries to answer the question how astrology and cartomancy (and telepathy) actually work.

It's based on my reading of the book 'Decoding Jung's Metaphysics' by philosopher Bernardo Kastrup.

It's kinda technical and epic, 42 minutes long, but if you're interested i hope you enjoy it.

Thanks for the link, Anton (and I had a chuckle at the catchline on your home page). I agree that astrology, and divination generally, go very well with an idealist metaphysics. The only alternative seems to be classical theism, not that the two are incompatible, of course. I also appreciate the work of Bernardo Kastrup in making such a strong case for idealism generally, although I don't subscribe to all details of his particular version of it. I was aware of his recent Jung book but haven't read it yet; thanks to you, I probably will.

Hi Martin,

If you're thinking about getting the book, you could also first watch this video where Jeffrey Mishlove discusses it with Kastrup

I think Kastrup's big strength is that he's very up to date when it comes to physics and neuroscience. But he also says that he doesn't take divination serious, and he would probably say the same thing about astrology. So that might keep astrologers from reading him, and that would be a shame, because he gives us a lot of stuff to work with and he presents Jung's metaphysics in a clean and consistent way which is also very useful. I think he removes a lot of ' Jungian noise' :D

To be honest, I can't blame people for not taking astrology seriously: I don't take most of what passes for astrology today seriously either! But I agree that, from an idealist perspective, a very strong case can be made for the idea that Everything is full of signs, and the one who understands one thing on the basis of another is a wise man of sorts (Enneads II 3,7, transl. Gerson et al.: one of my favourite quotations).

Reducing the Jungian noise sounds like a good thing. :D
