Earth at Aphelion

1
Today July 4th, Earth is at the aphelion of its orbit, its farthest from the Sun for the year.
In Horary we would say that the Earth is slowing down, close to being stationary... if we had to give an interpretation!

Friday, July 8th Titan and its atmosphere to occult a star! David Dunham of the International Occultation Timing Association writes, "Titan, the 8th-magnitude moon of Saturn with a thick atmosphere, will occult a star of the same brightness on Saturday morning, July 9. The occultation will be visible from much of North America: south of the northern limit that crosses central California, the southeast corner of Idaho, and north of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The southern limit crosses northwestern South America. Titan will be 3 arcminutes east of Saturn [about 4 ring-diameters].

"The occultation will last up to 5.5 minutes, shorter especially near the limits. When Titan gets close enough to the star that the two appear to merge, they will appear as a single object of magnitude 7.9. Then, for several seconds, the object will gradually diminish in brightness as the star sinks into Titan’s atmosphere, eventually reaching the magnitude 8.5 of Titan alone as the star completely disappears. The merged objects will similarly brighten when the star reappears."
"The next observable occultation of a similarly bright star by Titan won’t occur until 2048," writes Dunham, "and that will only be visible from Antarctica, so you are encouraged to make what observations you can of this rare event."

Mythology

Titan is the fifteenth of Saturn's moons and is the largest. It is also the second largest moon in the Solar System. Titan was names after the ancient race of giants in Greek Mythology. They were the children of Uranus and Gaia, who sought to rule the heavens but were overthrown by the family of Zeus.

On his website Cruiser1 (Astrolog) tells us that...
"Titan accentuates the past, and whatever environment the past has produced that we're forced to live and work within during the present. Therefore, Titan can represent the national, racial, and economic situations and issues we were born among, whether privileged or disadvantaged. Titan can also represent "karma" and its resolution, and even physical matter and its inherent qualities. The past can hold us back, or it can be a source of advice and assets, and act as "shoulders for us to stand upon", but either way it's present and it greatly conditions our existence."

Remark: U.S.A. celebrates their birthday at Aphelion and the assault on the Capitol happened at Perihelion.
Of course this is a Heliocentric view of the Earth but I also note that the Americans celebrate their birthday when the Sun is conjunct Sirius.
Does it have an incidence at Sirius Heliacal rising in about a month from now as astronomically speaking Sirius is now being 'burned' by the Sun thus invisible or making its descent to 'Hell'? Just a supputation here.
Blessings!

Thank you for sharing this! :' You can display the exact time of this apsis point event in Astrolog. To do this, turn on heliocentric, and then display the "Chart / Transits / Transit To Transit Times" chart for July. Turn off "Distance Changes" restriction so that aphelion events will be displayed. The result will be Earth reaching its most distant point at about 7:15am GMT on July 4. Of course, from the Earth's point of view, the Sun reaches its farthest distance from Earth at the exact same time, so one can see this event in a standard geocentric chart as well.

This is an interesting and unique event! :D Titan's disk is less than an arcsecond in angular diameter, so it's rare for it to overlap a star. Astrolog can already accurately display Saturn's moon Titan, and you can even see it or other bodies overlap stars in Astrolog's telescope chart. However, this particular occultation is harder to display in Astrolog, since the star HD 207123 is only magnitude 8.8. Astrolog can display over 1000 different stars, however (barring a few special case deep sky objects) its default star list only includes stars up to magnitude 6.0. Still, if you manually add the star's data to Swiss Ephemeris star file sefstars.txt, then you can display it.

Indeed, Titan is the second largest moon after Jupiter's Ganymede. These two moons are both larger than Mercury, so their influence in astrology is important to consider. There are also seven total moons in our solar system that are larger than Pluto (Earth's Moon, Jupiter's four Galilean moons, Titan, and Neptune's Triton).
